Political Parties


Partai Keadilan Rakyat (People's Justice Party, PKR)

Partai Keadilan Rakyat (People's Justice Party, PKR) is a centrist multi-ethnic political party in Malaysia. It was established in 2003 by a merger of the National Justice Party and the Malaysian People’s Party. PKR was led by former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim until he was jailed in 2014 following a politically motivated trial. The party is currently led by Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. It has 28 seats in the National Parliament (222 seats) and governs the State of Selangor.


GERAKAN, the Malaysian People’s Movement Party, was founded in 1968. It is part of the ruling National Front coalition (Barisan Nasional) and led by Mah Siew Kiong, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Office. GERAKAN currently has two seats in the National Parliament (222 seats). The party is a member of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD).
